Keloids are benign, dermal growths related to previous skin trauma or inflammation. There are several treatments for keloid scars, including: Corticosteroids: Injected directly into the scar tissue to reduce itching, redness, and burning. They can also help decrease the size of the scar. Cryotherapy: A treatment that freezes the keloid scar using a spray, contact, or needle cryoprobe. Surgery: Surgical excision is often combined with another treatment, such as radiation therapy or steroid injections, to reduce the high recurrence rate. Radiotherapy: Most effective when used as an adjuvant therapy after surgical excision. Compression dressings: For newer keloids, compression dressings made of stretchy fabric can be used. Silicone dressings or gels: Can help improve the appearance of keloid scars and reduce irritation. Laser therapy: Can be used to treat keloid scars.
